EDITORIAL: Live from Red Deer, It's Alberta Municipalities

This Thursday (September 26th), the spotlight will shine on Red Deer as municipal leaders from across Alberta gather for the highly anticipated Alberta Municipalities Trade and Convention Show.

This annual event is a significant gathering for municipal leaders, stakeholders, and industry representatives, providing a platform to discuss the pressing issues affecting local governments and their communities.

But this year, something special is in the works for us!

We’re thrilled to announce that Cross Border Network will be bringing you daily coverage from the heart of the convention. That’s right, for four days straight, we’ll be delivering daily recap shows at 7:00 AM, covering the most important moments from the previous day. These shows will feature interviews with municipal leaders, on-the-ground perspectives from attendees, and conversations with trade show guests, giving you a unique look into what’s happening on the convention floor.

Each recap will be between 10 to 15 minutes long, providing a concise yet comprehensive summary of the previous day’s highlights.

All of these recaps will be available exclusively on the Cross Border Network YouTube channel. If you haven’t already, now is the time to click the link, hit the subscribe button, and turn on notifications. This way, you won’t miss a single episode of our daily coverage. With so much happening over the four-day event, you’ll want to stay informed—and we’ll make sure you do.

But for us at Cross Border Network, the highlight of the convention will undoubtedly be our first live show of Municipal Affairs on location on Thursday, September 26th. This won’t be just any live show; it’s going to be an in-depth, 45-minute analysis of one of the convention’s most significant events: the keynote speeches from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi. As two of Alberta’s most influential political figures, their addresses to the convention delegates are expected to set the tone for the province’s political and policy landscape in the coming months - as the legislature returns in October. The time of the live show will be announced closer to Thursday.

Following these highly anticipated speeches, Cross Border Network will be going live to break down the day’s events and discuss the impact of the party leaders’ remarks. We’ll be speaking directly with municipal leaders and delegates to get their reactions—what resonated, what concerns remain, and how these speeches might influence their approach to governing at the local level. Our live analysis will be a can’t-miss opportunity to hear first-hand from the decision-makers who are on the front lines of municipal governance.

The Alberta Municipalities Convention is more than just a gathering of local officials—it’s where the future of Alberta’s cities, towns, and villages is debated and decided. From big speeches to small conversations, every moment matters. And we’ll be there to capture it all.

So, mark your calendars, set your alarms, and make sure you’re subscribed to Cross Border Network on YouTube. Whether you’re a municipal leader, a policy enthusiast, or just someone who cares about the future of Alberta’s communities, our coverage will hopefully give you a front-row seat to all the action.

Red Deer is about to become the center of Alberta’s political universe, and we can’t wait to bring you along for the ride.
