Holt Taps Former CAO as New Minister of Local Government
Premier-designate Susan Holt will tap Aaron Kennedy, the former Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Quispamsis, as the new Minister of Local Government and Minister responsible for Service New Brunswick.
Kennedy, widely recognized for his instrumental role in the political shakeup last month that led to the defeat of former Premier Blaine Higgs.
Kennedy, who has served the town of Quispamsis since 2011, is known for his longstanding commitment to local governance and his deep-rooted connections within New Brunswick communities. Before his administrative career, Kennedy was an award-winning broadcaster and journalist, a foundation that bolstered his communication skills and public rapport. Beyond the halls of local government, he is celebrated for his active leadership in organizing major community events across the province.
Kennedy will be part of a historic lineup that includes 19 ministers from among the 31 Liberal Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) elected.
Former Municipal Leaders Take Centre Stage in Cabinet
In addition to Kennedy’s appointment, Holt has introduced other notable ministers with strong municipal backgrounds. Former Saint John Councillor David Hickey will be the Minister responsible for the New Brunswick Housing Corporation, a critical position as the province seeks to address affordable housing challenges.
Rob McKee, a former Moncton Councillor and interim leader of the New Brunswick Liberals, will serve as the new Minister of Justice and Attorney General, with additional oversight of Addictions and Mental Health Services.
Jean-Claude D’Amours, former Mayor of Edmundston, has been appointed as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, with responsibilities for Immigration and Military Affairs. Gilles Lepage, the MLA for Restigouche West and former Executive Director of the Village of Balmoral, will lead the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and oversee the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation.
Premier-designate Holt’s strategic appointments reflect her commitment to strengthening New Brunswick’s social services and municipal connections, with Kennedy’s role poised to be pivotal in fostering productive relationships between the provincial government and local communities.
The swearing-in ceremony for Holt’s cabinet will take place on Saturday, November 2, at the Frederticton Convention Centre.
