INTERVIEW: Truro CAO Mike Dolter



Welcome to the Political Trenches: Local Government At Work.


With a distinguished 21-year career in the Canadian Forces, Michael began his professional journey as an Army Logistics Finance Officer.


His military tenure took him across Canada and internationally on peacekeeping missions, honing hisskills in leadership, logistics, and financial management. According to his biography one of his most pivotal roles was as the Comptroller at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, where he managed the financial operations of a community of over 5,000 residents.


This experience sparked a deep interest in municipal management, ultimately leading him to transition into civilian public service. In 2005, he retired from the military to become the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of his hometown, Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. After nine years, he moved to Truro, Nova Scotia, in 2014, to serve as the Town’s CAO, where he continue to focus on enhancing financial performance for resilient communities.
