Morden Sets By-Election: As Councillor Resigns to run for Mayor
Circle your calendars City of Morden residents, as you'll be heading to the polls on December 20th to elect a new mayor and two councillors.
Councillor Nancy Penner has made the decision to jump from her Council seat to the Mayor's chair in the upcoming by-election.
Her vacancy now leaves three vacant positions on the City's Council seven-member council. Remaining in their positions are, Councillors Sheldon Friesen, Gord Maddock, Garry Hiebert, and Doug Frost.
The vacant mayoral and two (2) vacant Council seats will be filled through a by-election, which is scheduled to take place on December 20, 2023. Prospective candidates are required to register by November 14th, 2023 at the City of Morden administration office located at 100-195 Stephen Street during regular business hours.
On October 5th, Brandon Burley the City's former Mayor resigned his seat on the council. He was then appointed by Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew a day later to the premier's transition team. On September 14th, Councillor Florian Lassnig announced his decision to step down from council due to family reasons.
