Ontario Leaders to Compete for FCM Board Seats at Upcoming Convention

Next week, municipal leaders will gather in Calgary for the Annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Convention.
Over the three-day event, a new Board of Directors and table officers will be elected to guide the organization through the coming year, with each province selecting board members to represent their municipalities.
Ontario is allocated 16 seats on the FCM Board, with nine of these seats filled by municipal leaders who receive support from their individual municipalities. Eighteen candidates are competing for these nine open seats. The candidates are: Michelle Boileau, Mayor of Timmins; Godwin Chan, Deputy Mayor of Richmond Hill; Gregg Davidson, Councillor of Wellington County; Glenn Doncaster, Councillor of Renfrew County; Nadia Dubyk, Councillor of Grey Highlands; Kevin Duguay, Councillor of Peterborough; Skylar Franke, Councillor of London; Conny Glenn, Councillor of Kingston; Diana Huson, Regional Councillor of Niagara; Kathy Jeffery, Councillor of Collingwood; Iain Lovatt, Mayor of Whitchurch-Stouffville; Robin McPherson, Councillor of St. Catharines; Nrinder Nann, Councillor of Hamilton; Rory Nisan, Councillor of Halton Region; Rowena Santos, Councillor of Brampton; Maleeha Shahid, Regional Councillor of Whitby; Michael Smith, Deputy Mayor of Simcoe County; and Alysson Storey, Councillor of Chatham-Kent.
Additional seats are filled through different appointment processes. One seat is selected by each Municipal Member with a population between one and two million. Two seats are selected by each Municipal Member with a population of two million or greater. One seat is selected by a majority vote of the chairs of the six regional governments in Ontario (Niagara, Halton, Waterloo, Peel, York, and Durham).
The appointed candidates for these positions are Paul Ainslie, Councillor of Toronto; Laine Johnson, Councillor of Ottawa; Jennifer McKelvie, Deputy Mayor of Toronto; and Steve Pellegrini, Mayor of York Region.
The final seat on the board is given to the president of the affiliated association, which is currently the President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Milton Councillor Colin Best.
Best's tenure as President is expected to end this summer, and his successor will replace him on the FCM board once his presidency concludes.
